When you want to personalize a Newsletter to an Audience, you can use Merge Fields to auto-fill constituent information.
|Merge Field In Newsletter Builder||Newsletter in Constituent Inbox|
If you use [FirstName] [LastName], the information from the First Name (George Michael) and Last Name (Bluth) Fields on the constituent record will automatically appear when the Newsletter is sent. If you use [Salutation], the information from that Field on the Profile tab will appear whether it is the default salutation (Mr. Bluth) or a custom salutation (Mr. Manager).
The Newsletter Merge Fields available are:
|[FullName]||Mr. John Smith|
|[Prefix]||Mr, Mrs, etc.|
|[Address]||Full Home Address|
Replacement of Merge Field Placeholders
If a Newsletter recipient doesn't have the Merge Field information, the corresponding Merge Field is removed and nothing is put in its place for that specific email. The one exception is [Salutation] which will insert “Friend” if the other name fields are missing data.
When sending a test, sample data will be inserted for every Merge Field included in the Newsletter.
One thing to note is that the formatting within the Merge Field must be consistent. If you accidentally highlight part of the Merge Field and modify something like the size or font it may break the Merge Field. You can determine this by sending a test. If that happens, hop into chat and the Account Team can fix it for you!
